History of Republic day

The history of Republic Day is very interesting. To become an independent republic and to establish the rule of law in the country, the constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on 26 November 1949 and implemented on 26 January 1950 with a democratic government system.

In December 1929, a Congress session was held in Lahore under the chairmanship of Pandit Javarhalal Nehru. Passing the resolution in this session, it was announced that if India was not given Dominion status till 26 January 1930 by the British Government, India would be declared a completely independent country.

Until 26 January 1930, when the British Government did nothing, then on that day Congress declared the determination of complete independence of India and started its active movement.

From that day until the attainment of independence in 1947, 26 January was celebrated as Republic Day. After this, on 15 August 1947, Independence Day began to be celebrated on this day after attaining actual independence.

After India became independent, the Constituent Assembly was announced and started its work from 9 December 1947. Members of the Constituent Assembly were elected by the elected members of the assemblies of the states of India.

How the Constitution came into force on 26 January 1950?

Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, etc. were prominent members of this gathering.

There were a total of 22 committees in constitution framing, of which the drafting committee was the most prominent and important committee and the task of this committee was to 'write constitution' or 'construct' the whole.

The chairman of the drafting committee was Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. The drafting committee, and especially Dr. Ambedkar,  composed the Constitution of India in 2 years, 11 months and 18 days and completed the Constitution of India on 26 November 1949 to Dr. Rajendra Prasad, President of the Constituent Assembly.

After which, after several reforms and changes, 308 members of the assembly signed two handwritten copies of the constitution on 24 January 1950.

Two days later, the Constitution came into an authority on 26 January. To maintain the importance of 26 January, on the same day, the Constitution approved by the Constituent Assembly (Constituent Assembly) recognized the republican form of India. Therefore 26 January is celebrated every year as Republic Day.
