Fisher Unions Oppose Move To Close Case Against Italian Marines | Italian Marine Case "Though the families of the victims have accepted the compensation following the intervention of the Church, the case should not be withdrawn" KOCHI : The fishermen unions in Kerala on Friday opposed the move by the Union government to withdraw the case against the two Italian marines accepting the compensation offered to the victims. The Supreme Court on Friday observed that the criminal cases pending against marines Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre , who gunned down two Indian fishermen off Kollam coast in Kerala, can be closed only after Italy deposits Rs 10 crore as compensation for the families of victims. “We are of the opinion that the marines should be tried under the Indian law as the crime occurred in Indian waters.
