In Ladakh, the Indian Army conducted an integrated manoeuvre and live-fire exercise on Thursday, despite a year of tension with China in the region.
The drill was conducted at very high altitudes near 15,000 feet, with Corps Commander Lt. Gen PGK Menon reviewing operational readiness.
Since May 2020, India and China have been engaged in a military standoff in Ladakh, with over 50,000 troops deployed on both sides. There has been a disengagement at friction spots after 12 rounds of military talks at the Corps Commander level to find a settlement, but soldiers have yet to be de-inducted.
Disengagement is now taking place in Galwan, Gogra, and Pangong Tso. The situation in the Hot Springs region surrounding PP15 is still tight.
In February of this year, Indian and Chinese forces disengaged in the Pangong Lake area, although progress was sluggish, with tensions lessening after that.
