Hours after probationary sub-inspector Arshid Ahmad was shot dead by suspected militants in Khanyar, Srinagar, police announced they had identified his killers. While the assailants' or group's identities were not revealed, Director General of Police Dilbag Singh informed the media that the culprits of the crime had been identified and would be brought to justice. Police have established a squad to look into the death of Ahmad, who was put to rest late Sunday night in Kalmona village in Kupwara district. His funeral was attended by a huge number of people. Ahmad was assigned to the police station at Khanyar. On social media, a CCTV video of an assailant brandishing a tiny weapon and firing at Ahmad from close range went viral. After returning from a hospital where he had taken an accused for a checkup, Ahmad, a native of Kupwara district, was shot at.
