Martyr Lt Rishi Kumar: Gloom deteriorated on Lieutenant Rishi Kumar's house in Professor Colony in the Pipra locality of Bihar's Begusarai Town on Saturday, following his and another jawan's deaths in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near a forward post along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.

As word of Lt Rishi Kumar 's death spread across the community, his family members and the other inhabitants were taken aback. His mother Sarita Devi passed out, while his father Rajiv Ranjan Singh, a furniture salesman, became dumbfounded and continued staring blankly at the sky.

His house was crowded by mourners from the neighborhood who had come to soothe the family members who had been bereaved.

Lt Rishi Kumar Talked With His Mother on Phone:

On October 27, Sarita spoke with her son over the phone and he vowed to return for Chhath Puja, even if for a brief visit; however, a day later, he informed her that his leave had been delayed to November 22.

"However, he did not appear, and we received the heartbreaking news of my son's martyrdom. I never imagined it would be the last time I spoke to him," Sarita continued.

Vikas Vaibhav, a neighbor, claimed Lt Rishi Kumar joined the Indian Army's 17 Sikh Infantry in 2020 and was assigned to Jammu and Kashmir only two months ago. The murdered officer is survived by two sisters, the older of whom is also an army. The wedding of Rishi's younger sister was scheduled for November 29 during his leave. Neighbors characterized the martyr as a 'hero' who always wore a smile.

Meanwhile, Begusarai Member of Parliament and Union minister Giriraj Singh lauded Rishi's bravery and prayed to God for the ability to grieve his loss.

"My heartfelt respects to army men Lt Rishi Kumar and Sepoy Manjit Singh, who died defending India's territorial integrity in the Nowshera area. "My heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs and prayers for the injured," lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha wrote in a tweet.
