Police said on Tuesday evening, the terrorists opened fire on the police Naka party, resulting in injuries to three policemen. They fled from the spot soon after the attack.
An assistant sub-inspector was killed and two other policemen were injured after terrorists attacked a check post in the city’s Lal Bazar area, officials said on Tuesday.
The injured policemen were shifted to a hospital, where assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Mushtaq Ahmed succumbed to injuries, the police added.
"Militants opened fire on a police Naka party in Srinagar's Lal Bazar neighborhood. Three police officers were hurt in this event, and they were sent to the hospital. It has been cordoned off, the J&K Police tweeted.
A police spokeswoman revealed in another tweet that an officer died as a result of the attack's injuries. "ASI Mushtaq Ahmad achieved martyrdom after succumbing to his wounds. We give the martyr a hearty appreciation for his great act of selflessness. Two further injured employees are receiving treatment, the police tweeted.
The security forces are doing a comprehensive inspection of all vehicles in the region, according to the police, who stated a large search has been initiated to find the attackers.
Ahmad is the ninth policeman to be killed by terrorists in different attacks this year, and most of the policemen were killed when they were off duty, according to official data.
