The incident occurred during the plane's landing, as CBC reported that the aircraft flipped on the runway. Delta flight, arriving from Minneapolis, was carrying 76 passengers and four crew members at the time of the accident. While the airport confirmed the incident on social media, it reassured the public that all passengers and crew members were accounted for.

In response to the crash, emergency teams swiftly deployed to the scene, while Peel Regional Police, along with paramedics, established a staging area off the runway. Initial reports from Constable Sarah Patten suggested that although many passengers appeared unharmed, investigations were still ongoing.

“It is my understanding that most of the passengers are out and unharmed but we're still trying to make sure so we're still on scene investigating,” Patten shared with Reuters.

Following the crash, Toronto Pearson Airport temporarily suspended all flight arrivals and departures. However, air traffic resumed after the necessary safety measures were taken. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that a ground stop had been implemented at the airport for a short time as emergency operations unfolded.

Delta Airlines issued a statement following the crash, advising affected passengers to check flight statuses via the Fly Delta app for any changes. The airline has been in contact with those traveling through Toronto Pearson to assist in their travel plans.

Additionally, a collision between an American Airlines regional jet and a U.S. military Black Hawk helicopter at Washington D.C.’s Reagan National Airport last month led to the tragic loss of 67 lives.
