Veteran Actor Deb Mukherjee

M(caps)umbai, India – March 14, 2025 – Veteran actor Deb Mukherjee passed away on Friday at the age of 83. He was known for his contributions to Hindi cinema and was also the father of acclaimed filmmaker Ayan Mukerji.

Deb Mukherjee had been facing age-related health issues. He died in Mumbai on the morning of March 14th.

A member of the prominent Mukherjee-Samarth family, Deb Mukherjee's lineage is deeply rooted in the Indian film industry. He was the son of Sashadhar Mukherjee, founder of Filmalaya Studios, and Satidevi Mukherjee, sister of legendary actors Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar, and Kishore Kumar.

His family connections also include his brother Joy Mukherjee, and his brother Shomu Mukherjee who was married to actress Tanuja. This makes actresses Kajol and Rani Mukerji his nieces.

His daughter Sunita, from his first marriage, is married to director Ashutosh Gowariker.
