Good Friday 2020: Everything You Need To Know

Good Friday 2020

When is Good Friday, why is it so special in the Christian community?

Good Friday is of great importance among Christians. Good Friday is one of the most prominent festivals of the Christian community. This time Good Friday will be celebrated on 10 April.

Some people call Good Friday as ‘Holy Friday’ and some people call it ‘Great Friday’. Good Friday is known by different names in different countries.

Why Good Friday is celebrated

On this day the Christian community’s master Jesus Christ was crucified. Three years later, he was alive, after which Easter Sunday began to be celebrated. However, ‘Good Friday’ is celebrated by Christianity as ‘Day of Mourning’.

The biggest question that remains in people’s minds is how can they be called ‘Good’ on the day Jesus was crucified.

Actually, in Christianity it is believed that Jesus gave his life for the good of the people, hence this day is called ‘Good’. Since this day falls on Friday, it is called ‘Good Friday’. Celebrate this day as their sacrifice day.

How was it named “Good Friday”?

According to Christianity, Jesus is the son of God. He was sentenced to death to remove the darkness of ignorance. To appease the hardliners, Pilate orders Jesus to be hanged to death on the cross.

They were tortured in many ways. But Jesus kept praying for them that ‘O God! Forgive them because they don’t know what they are doing. ‘ Friday was the day that Christ was hanged on the cross.

Since then, that day came to be known as Good Friday. Good Friday is also known as Holy Friday, Black Friday and Great Friday.

This is how Good Friday is Celebrated

People of Christianity celebrate Good Friday with great pomp. Prayers and fasting begin 40 days before Good Friday in the homes of Christians.

In this fast, they eat vegetarian food. When fasting ends 40 days later, people go to church on Good Friday and mourn by remembering their Messiah.

At the same time, the last seven sentences of Jesus on the day of Good Friday are given special explanations that focus on forgiveness, reconciliation, help, and sacrifice.

Here are some messages, quotes, WhatsApp status to share with your family and loved ones on this day:
“The dripping blood our only drink, The bloody flesh our only food: In spite of which we like to think That we are sound, substantial flesh and blood– Again, in spite of that, we call this Friday good.” – T.S. Eliot
“Christmas and Easter can be subjects for poetry, but Good Friday, like Auschwitz, cannot. The reality is so horrible it is not surprising that people should have found it a stumbling block to faith.” – W.H. Auden
“How great is the love of God! He loved me long before I knew His name. He wooed me, chased me, enthralled me, and captured my heart. He didn’t prove His love at a candlelight dinner. There were no long-stemmed roses, but there were thorns. Yes, there were thorns.” – Katherine J Walden
Good Friday 2020

Good Friday marks the slaying of our Jesus. The unblemished lamb, the perfect sacrifice. He took our guilt and blame upon Himself so we could be with Him. Mercy, peace, and love.
May the grace and Lord surround you & be with you on Good Friday.
May the glory of our Savior strengthen you and may His graces shine upon you on Good Friday and always!
Very thankful for the many blessings the Lord has given me…Love you, Lord. Happy Good Friday.
Today we remember God’s great love for us. May this day bring new meaning and change in your life! Wishing all Christians a blessed Good Friday.
On this Good Friday may we never forget the true meaning of Easter – ‘For when He was on the cross, I was on His mind.’
Today, Christians around the world celebrate Good Friday. Wishing all who celebrate the blessed day.
Thank You!
